Dream Chair
Danish craftsmanship and Japanese design traditions join forces with the Dream Chair, a collaboration between Tadao Ando and Carl Hansen & Son. The Dream Chair is Ando’s tribute to Hans J. Wegner and, like Wegner, the Japanese architect explores material possibilities by pushing the boundaries of what is structurally possible. The chair is made of three-dimensional plywood curved along two axles during the molding process. Ando and the cabinetmakers at Carl Hansen & Son pushed the size and curvature of the plywood sheet, resulting in a sculpture like piece that appears to float in midair.
